Learn how to take your writing from simple to sophisticated

Learn how to take your writing from simple to sophisticated. The focus will be on English Language and the Literature (Poetry) to explore the vocabulary examiners look for in higher band candidates. We’ll cover key language and structure techniques and you’ll discover how the language of analysis differs from evaluation, and how to use the right words in the right place. We’ll go beyond language to look at how to structure your longer responses in exams too.

These skills won’t just boost your English grade; they’ll help you express yourself more clearly in essays and exam responses across all your GCSE subjects that require extended written responses.

Suitable for young people, aged 14-16, studying for their GCSE exams at school or at home.

Do you have any needs you think we should know about, and are there ways we can make the session more inclusive for you? Examples might be enlarging the text on handouts/ printing it on a different colour paper; providing movement breaks; a visual timetable of activities. This is your session in your library, so we want to make sure it works for you. Email library.childrens@newcastle.gov.uk to let us know.
