About this event

School attendance is a major problem across the country. Children are struggling to attend school and the adults are struggling to understand why.

For one night only we are bringing our highly regarded workshop on SCHOOL AVOIDANCE to our Sunshine Hub, for an interactive in-person workshop that will be tailored by the audience.

We will cover...

  • What is school avoidance and when should we be concerned?
  • What causes school avoidance?
  • Intergenerational links
  • Affects on mental health, physical health and long term outcomes
  • How we can unpick what is going wrong for a child's learning
  • What the child's legal rights are
  • How we manage school absence - short, medium and long term
  • EHCPs, why they might be needed and what to do if you have one in place
  • The future

We will, of course, be taking your questions throughout the evening making this a very bespoke workshop that is uniquely guided by audience participation.

The workshop will be limited to 20 places to ensure time for everyone's questions, and is perfect for parents and teachers alike. Even more perfect if you're coming together to support specific children!

We will see you there!

Meet our Speakers

Chrissa Wadlow is our founder, she has dedicated her recent career to researching School Avoidance having experienced it herself and also from the perspective of a parent who's child struggles to attend school.

Kelly Jarvis is an experienced specialist headteacher who is Head of Advocacy and Consultancy at Sunshine Support where she's been supporting families for over 3.5 years. During both her educationalist and advocacy career she has supported hundreds, if not thousands, of famlies who are affected by school avoidance.

Both Chrissa and Kelly's expertise and speaking skills are requested globally on this topic, and so this is a very rare event indeed!
