Science Club - Heating and Cooling

Become a materials scientist at this month’s sizzling Science Club. Experiment with heating and cooling – identify mystery substances by seeing what happens when you heat them up: will it change colour, melt, bubble or even disappear? How can you tell what fuel is best for a campfire, stove, or candle, or safety-test to see what is flammable or flameproof? See how materials transform over a gas burner in our fun interactive demo. Melt wax, and add colour and scent to your own tealight candle to take home!

Suitable for ages 5-9 (accompanied by an adult)

What is included in your ticket:

90 minute club session for one child and accompanying adult

Access to:

- Access to the woodland and outdoor areas (bring a change of clothes for the Water Lab) from 10am–5pm (last entry 4.30pm)

- Parking (limited availability)

- Café 10am - 4pm

What is NOT included:

- Access to the Exploration Zone

Event Details

All Saturday Club sessions must be accompanied by an adult. These family workshops are designed for you and your child to learn from each other and work together while trying out new things. Led by our expert club leaders with bespoke activities designed to provide science-inspired fun challenges. There is a different theme each week so we and you are always learning something new!

Emira's Kitchen café at the Science Oxford Centre is open on Saturdays from 10am-4pm, serving hot and cold drinks, snacks and rolls. Families are welcome to bring picnics to eat at our lunch tables.

£15 per club ticket (includes Eventbrite booking fee. Admits one child and accompanying adult.

£5 additional adult/s ticket admittance to Science Club and outside areas / café. All attendees need a ticket, for under 3’s we recommend the Family day instead.
