A 2-day somatic dance event at LCB Depot, featuring work by Amy Voris/ Cath Cullinane, Caroline Salem, Dominique Rivoal & Marguerite Galizia
'Scores and Traces' brings together the work of four UK dance artists Amy Voris (in collaboration with lighting designer Cath Cullinane), Dominique Rivoal, Caroline Salem and Marguerite Galizia, in a two day event of score-based presentations, workshops, performances and conversations, taking place in the Gallery at LCB Depot (Leicester).
The event begins choreographer Caroline Salem who leads her morning movement practice devised over recent years in response to her own movement needs and influences (in particular the work of Mabel E Todd Barbara Clark Nancy Topf and John Rolland).
PhD researcher and dance-artist Marguerite Galizia will be sharing the first full version of her score-based practices: Space, Time and Rolling on the Floor. Developing out of her research into the practice of Self-Choreography, Galizia invites the audience to walk, sit and lie on the ground as she performs her solo with/to an audience as wit(h)ness.
For In the Space Between, dance-filmmaker and artist-researcher Dominique Rivoal offers a participatory workshop–lecture that gently introduces the relational dyad. The session presents the dyad as a paired practice for exploring personal expression in the presence of a supportive partner. Participants are invited to work in pairs through a simple, structured back-and-forth exchange around a chosen question, using spoken word, orientation, and movement. Each person takes turns as explorer and witness, paying attention to the space in between—where awareness and connection can emerge through relation.
On the 19th February, the space makes way for lighting designer Cath Cullinane and choreographer Amy Voris, who will present their latest collaboration - bouquet - bringing a strange collection of movement together with a cacophony of floral hues.
Finally, Caroline Salem will lead a short practice from her 'Heart Line' scores as a lead into an open discussion, reflecting on the 2 day event; we'll be discussing how we choose to stay with our practices and share these with audiences.
Rather than set a ticket price, we have left the fee open. We suggest a £10 donation towards the performances and workshop and £5 donation towards the guided score. The final conversation is free. Donations will help cover our travel expenses for this event.
We gratefully acknowledge the support and assistance that De Montfort University have contributed to the event.

Agenda
-
Salem16 - A guided score by Caroline Salem
The score is a preparation for more movement or simply a good day! You are invited to join Caroline as she leads her morning movement practice devised over recent years in response to her own movement needs and influences (in particular the work of Mabel E Todd Barbara Clark Nancy Topf and John Rolland) The first 8 offer a series of anatomical landmarks and the second 8 a series of body-space activations around which participants weave their own individual riffing of interconnectivity. There will be no partner or group work, it is a time for you No specific level of movement experience is required, just an interest in tuning into how things are and a curiosity to delve deeper and play. Caroline will respond to the level of guidance needed for all to benefit, so if this sounds new to you that’s Ok.

In the space between: a workshop by Dominique Rivoal
Dance-filmmaker and artist-researcher Dominique Rivoal leads a participatory workshop–lecture introducing the dyad as a shared practice for exploring personal expression in the presence of a supportive witness. Participants are invited to work in pairs, tuning inward and engaging in a simple, structured back-and-forth exchange around a chosen inquiry, using spoken word, orientation, and movement. By taking turns as explorer and witness, participants attend to the space in between—where consciousness emerges through relation.
