Scotland's Dragonflies Workshop

TWIC is the Local Environmental Records Centre for south east and part of central Scotland that collects, collates and disseminates information about the wildlife in our area. The Centre is a not-for-profit company with charitable status and provides objective, independent wildlife information for people and organisations.TWIC is the focal point for biological recording in our area and is working to increase our knowledge of the land, freshwater and marine wildlife throughout our region. The Centre provides a wide range of data services; we routinely supply data to local authorities for screening planning applications, to consultants for preparing environmental assessments and to students and academics for research.The ongoing development of TWIC and its services is funded by grant aid from NatureScot, service level agreements with local authorities and income from contract work, projects and voluntary contributions.TWIC is a company registered in Scotland (No SC234339) and a registered Scottish Charity SC034113.

The Wildlife Information Centre

An introduction to the Damselflies and Dragonflies found in Scotland, led by local expert Bryan Hickman.

Vogrie House

In-person, Vogrie House, Nature Studies ClassroomJoin TWIC and Bryan Hickman to learn about the beautiful Dragonflies (Odonata) of Scotland. This workshop will introduce basics of distinguishing between dragonfly and damselfly species. Attendees will be able to familiarise themselves with common damselfly and dragonfly species found in Scotland. During the outdoor component participants will put their new-found skills into practice as we survey the pond-side areas at Vogrie Country Park in search of dragonflies.Suitable for: Beginners. Ages 16 and above.Workshop leader: Bryan Hickman is the British Dragonfly Society's Area Co-ordinator for East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. Expert in Dragonflies and Damselflies.What to bring: Suitable outdoor footwear and warm clothing, lunch, waterproofs, notepad and pen. If you have one, please bring a hand lens and any relevant ID books (spares will be available). Teas/coffees will be provided.Cost: Free (donations to TWIC welcome). Note that a £3 car parking charge applies.Choose either the free ticket type or the donation ticket type (minimum donation £1). Donations to TWIC will support our work in organising biological recording training workshops and events.
