Scottish Study Tour
Exploring timber businesses in southern and central Scotland, showcasing local wood in construction.
Led by John Sweeny (Sawmills Coordinator, Woodknowledge Wales), this tour will provide an opportunity to see homegrown timber used in all aspects of timber construction.
Visits
The tour will look at various timber related businesses in Southern and Central Scotland.
- James Jones and Sons Sawmill, Lockerbie
- Alexander’s Timber Design, Irvine
- Scottish Wood, Dunfermline
- Caledonia Timber, Melrose
- Abbey Timber, Duns
- Realwood Studio, Jedburgh
- Tim Stead Trust, Blainslie (TBC)
Audience
The tour is aimed at smaller scale sawmills, timber framers, architects and foresters, though anyone is welcome.
Accomodation & Meals
Accommodation will be provided in either bed and breakfasts or hotels with breakfast available.
- Marina View Hotel, Irvine.
- Keavil House Hotel, Crossford.
- The Royal Hotel, Jedburgh.
Meal expenses should be covered by individuals themselves, allowing us to keep prices as low as possible.
Travel & Dates
Travel will take place by minibus.
- Depart from North-East Wales on the morning on Tuesday 5th May.
- Return to North-East Wales by mid afternoon on Saturday 9th May.
Pricing
This tour will cost £650, with a deposit contribution of £300 requested to ensure a place.
- When you purchase your ticket via Eventbrite, this will cover the deposit only and reserve your place on the tour.
- To pay the remaining amount (£350) select the add-on anytime before the deadline.
A discretionary bursary may be available to support participants from SMEs/ community groups and those who are self-employed.
