Securing engagement for impact data capture (UK time zone)

Since 2010, Vertigo Ventures (VV) has been working with leading research organisations globally to help them identify, capture and report the impact of their work. Currently, VV are working closely with several universities in the United Kingdom, Australia and Hong Kong to help them best prepare for their national research assessment exercises of REF 2021, EI 2018 and RAE 2020 respectively.VV provides a range of services, such as impact training workshops, consultancy services, and, its proprietary software VV-Impact Tracker. All of them utilise VV's innovative online impact capture and reporting framework, VV-Impact Metrics, developed over the past decade with close industry input. VV's depth of impact expertise enables their clients to put their best foot forward in embedding impact measurement and reporting, and, ultimately to maximise the impact of their work.

Capturing research impact is of growing importance with more funders asking for this information than ever before, not only in the UK but as a global trend. Being able to capture impact throughout a project's lifecyle is key to having high quality impact data and evidence, as well as ensuring it is time efficient for researchers and managers. As such most UK universities are implementing some form of impact data capture system.
This one-hour intensive session is aimed at those interested to learn more about how to successfully engage their academic staff with capturing their impact. Having worked with many universities since July 2014 to implement and roll out VV-Impact Tracker, and supported engagement initiatives at a breadth of organisations, this session will share experiences of what has worked well, lessons learned and crucial activities, to ensure high quality impact information is captured. This session will utilise these reflections and learnings to share insight for those currently looking to implement an impact capture system.

Vertigo Ventures worked with leading UK universities to prepare for the UK REF 2014 and the Australia team has been working with Australian and New Zealand researchers on engagement. 
 
In 2014, Vertigo Ventures launched VV-Impact Tracker with UK institutions to help researchers and higher education institutions to identify, store, validate, and organise impact information and evidence from funded and non-funded projects. VV-Impact Tracker provides a taxonomy and systematic workflow that contextualises research project information with impact data to provide a compelling narrative about research use, reach and significance, and produces clean data for reporting purposes.
