Seeing Beyond Behaviour

The Early Years SEND, Access and Inclusion team is part of the Early Years Service and offers a wide range of support, advice and training to Early Years Providers in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). These include running termly Early Years SENCO Liaison Groups, twice weekly telephone consultations with providers and running SEND Specific training such as NAS Early Bird. All the EY SEND Advisors are qualified teachers with lots of practical experience of supporting children with SEND across a range of educational phases and the home and/or respite environments.Buckinghamsire Council's Educational Psychology Team is part of the integrated Special Educational Needs and Disabilites (iSEND) Service. Educational psychologists (EPs) work at individual, group, systemic and community levels to promote the personal, social and educational well-being of all children and young people aged between 0 and 25 years. Primarily this takes place through links with schools and other educational settings, with EPs typically adopting a 'consultation' approach to delivery of support - that is, EPs work alongside parents, teachers and other key adults to help understand and target support for learners.The EP Team also leads on projects that support children's well-being, including running the Nurture group and Emotional Literacy Support Assistant programmes for schools and the Holding Hands programme for parents. In addition, EPs have a statutory role in the education, health and care (EHC) needs assessment process, providing advice to the local authority regarding the special educational needs of identified children and young people, and the provision required in order to best meet those needs.

If the answer is yes, then Buckinghamshire Council have an exciting new opportunity for you.In partnership with colleagues from Health, FACT Bucks and SENDIAS, we will be running FREE training sessions to support those caring for or working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within Buckinghamshire.At the end of the session participants will be able to:<ul><li>understand what we mean when we talk about a child&#x27;s/young person&#x27;s behaviour</li><li>always consider &#x27;behaviour because...&#x27;</li><li>through a range of scenarios, explore strategies we could use to support the children and young people we work with</li><li>consider how we can alter our behaviour/interactions to reduce anxiety or &#x27;distressed behaviour&#x27; in others</li></ul>
