Event Details

Sefiroth is an international collective of musicians founded by brothers Nick and Alex Roth to explore traditional Sephardic repertoire. They keep the spirit of the traditions alive yet do something totally different at the same time - Fiona Talkington, Late Junction, BBC Radio 3. Sung in Ladino, these ancient songs weave timeless stories of love, loss and yearning for home, evoking the lands where the Sephardic diaspora settled: Iberia, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The group’s arrangements are as porous and wide-ranging as the history of the Sephardim, combining acoustic and electric instruments, improvisation, modern harmonies and trance-inducing rhythms. Essential listening for anyone attending our project A Vanished Kingdom; Alex Roth will be joining us on the final Saturday as we share our imaginary borderland.

When & Where

The Bridewell Theatre
14 Bride Lane
EC4Y 8EQ London
United Kingdom

Lost kingdoms and frozen conflicts, melting pots and museum pieces, grey areas between the black and white of competing nationalisms… Welcome to Marchland, Théâtre Volière’s season of performance and interdisciplinary events from Europe’s borderlands.

We are an Anglo-French theatre and production company from Strasbourg, capital of Alsace; Europe’s crossroads, and one of its many borderlands with a rich and turbulent history.

Marchland is our response to the crises of identity currently sweeping Europe. We wanted to create a season that was more enlightenment than light entertainment, a neutral space where many traditions could come together and ask: What can the voices from Europe’s liminal spaces, past and present, tell us about what it means to be European today?

Marchland will run each February, from 2018 to 2020, at The Bridewell Theatre, London, in its own, unique, pop up space.

Welcome to the crossroads.

Welcome to Marchland.
