Come and enjoy a special tour of the Tower of Selby Abbey. Please note the conditions below.


SELBY ABBEY - TOUR OF CENTRAL TOWER - CONDITIONS OF ACCESS

Numbers are limited and health and other restrictions apply. If the weather conditions are poor, access to the top of the Tower may not be possible. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour begins.

ASCENT TO THE TOP IS ARDUOUS. THE STEPS ARE STEEP AND UNEVEN. THE STAIRCASE IS NARROW. THERE IS A LADDER TO CLIMB AT THE TOP. YOU MUST:

1. Be in good general health. (Ascent is unsuitable for anybody with disability or infirmity or suffering with heart or respiratory disorders or any other medical condition which could affect the climb).

2. Wear suitable footwear and clothing. (No high heels or flip-flops).

3. Be at least 8 years of age. (Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult).

4. Have both hands free. (Large items of luggage must be left at ground level. Cameras/ binoculars etc. must be carried in an appropriate bag on the body – not by hand).

5. Follow the instructions of Abbey Stewards.

6. NOT touch bell ropes. (Unless invited to do so by a member of the Abbey’s bell ringing team).

7. Sign the Booking Sheet.
