A free workshop for all who work in health and social care in the Thames Valley
Having compassion for yourself is no different from having compassion for others. Health and social care staff are sometimes described as having ‘compassion-fatigue’, often the result of stress and a lack of control of their workload or environment (see references below). Suffering, failure and imperfection are a shared human experience; do we make enough time and space to acknowledge this in ourselves?
Self-compassion is an inner strength that enables us to acknowledge our shortcomings, learn from them and make the necessary changes with an attitude of kindness and respect. With time, space and encouragement we can learn to care for ourselves and others with patience and love.
In this workshop we will learn about self-compassion research, explore our own experiences and reflect on our feelings, and share perspectives in small groups.
About the facilitator
Dr Sarah Eagger is a consultant psychiatrist working privately in London and is a certified Mindful Self-compassion teacher. She was an NHS consultant and honorary senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College for 20 years. Sarah is chair of the Janki Foundation, a UK based charity that promotes spirituality in healthcare. Sarah is very committed to an approach that enhances peace, love and compassion for the benefit of healing oneself and others
