About this event

This workshop supports those working with vulnerable populations and service users. It provides a mix of knowledge and practical skills to improve awareness, risk assessment / risk stratification and safety planning / general safeguarding.

This workshop will support staff to better understand and recognise mental health crisis and the psychology and cognitive / situational factors commonly associated with risks associated with self-harm and suicide.

This training is delivered by a psychology / psychiatry qualified facilitator and free post training support is available on an informal basis.

The following key areas will be addressed:

  • Statistics and general epidemiology of self harm and suicide risk
  • Clarification of terminology and associated psychiatric factors
  • The psychology associated with self-harm and suicide risk – understanding the vulnerable mind and putting risk-related behaviours into a risk-context
  • Risk assessment practices to improve insights and safeguarding responses / management of at-risk clients
  • Complicating factors associated with personality disorder and attachment seeking concerns
  • Advocating for at risk clients, safety planning and knowing when and where to challenge risks being taken by other services
  • Communication skills to better-identify risk related concerns and improve safeguarding outcomes
  • A framework of listening and conversational-based support strategies / skills-based training to better-supports individuals vulnerable depression and self-harm related risk
  • Knowledge and skills to signpost and advocate for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Signposting to services, the role of the CMHT / Crisis Team and the functions of the Mental Health Act

This is a one-day workshop and post-training support is available.

This course will be delivered by Mental Health Training on the following date:
