This seminar delves into the intricate layers of digital systems in civil services and urban environments, exploring their role in shaping experiences and interactions within cities. It’s a continuation of Media Evolution's pursuit in Wise Cities, aiming to further the use of digitisation in build environments and broaden the ambitions and desires of smart city concepts.During the seminar – that's a side event at the <a href="https://oredev.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Øredev Conference</a>, organised by Media Evolution and DigIT Hub Sweden – we will dissect the insides, interfaces, and human interaction of and with digital infrastructures, providing insights on potential open-source development for civic services, collaboration between agencies, the physicality of digital infrastructures, and the transparency of digital systems in public spaces.Speakers:<a href="https://www.linaker.se" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Johan Linåker</a> (RISE) is an empirical software engineering researcher who will speak about how cities and municipalities can share and collaborate on developing and maintaining Open Source Software-based systems for their common use cases. He will provide examples of existing collaborations and how some actors take the lead and help others along the road.<a href="http://lifewinning.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ingrid Burrington</a> is a writer and artist based in Brooklyn, NY, interested in power, landscape, technology, and narratives constructed around all of the above. Ingrid spoke at <a href="https://videos.theconference.se/ingrid-burrington-where-the-internet-is-located" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Conference 2014</a>.<a href="https://www.pichot.us" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jonathan Pichot</a> will present his work on transparency of digital systems in public space. He is a technologist and urbanist focusing on how cities can use technology in new ways that address challenges in the built environment. Jonathan is one of three residents in the <a href="https://www.malmoresidency.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Malmö Residency 2023 program</a>. <a href="http://violetwhitney.me" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Violet Whitney</a> is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP where she teaches tangible and spatial computing courses and has been a Director of Product and an Associate Director of Design at Sidewalk Labs, the Google initiative focused on building future cities. At the seminar she will present her work on the <a href="https://medium.com/spatial-pixel/periodic-table-of-spatial-computing-3f40ed162b2e" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Periodic Table of Spatial Computing</a>.Moderator: Martin Thörnkvist, Programs Director, Media EvolutionThe seminar is organised as a part of <a href="https://digithub.se/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DigIT Hub Sweden</a> – an initiative that helps companies and the public sector in Southern Sweden to digitise. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union, Region Blekinge, Region Kronoberg, Region Skåne, and Vinnova.
