Our mission is to significantly reduce the disproportionate adverse outcomes for Autistic and ADHD children and young people by providing unique opportunities for skill development, enhancing well-being, and fostering a sense of community belonging. We aim to empower neurodiverse children, young people, and their families by addressing critical gaps in services. Our goal is to transform the lives of Autistic and ADHD children by minimising adverse outcomes, enhancing their skills, promoting well-being and community connections, and encouraging a sense of belonging.

In her talk, Alison Hart, Occupational Therapist, will explore sensory processing differences and their everyday impact and implications.

Welcome!

Through our SEN Explained Series, we humbly endeavor to move the needle forward in the field of SEN, and larger society, for more intersectional and progressive conversations around neurodiversity. Our speakers have first-hand knowledge and experience across special educational needs. We want to share their expertise and experiences to impact not only our families, but educators, academics, voluntary and statutory sector professionals, and the public-at-large for more equitable understanding, treatment, and practice. 

This session will look at how Sensory Processing challenges our ability to engage in activities, tolerate environments, and impact demand avoidance. The session will give understanding to what Sensory Processing is and how it impacts everything we do or don&#x27;t do! Practical strategies will be embedded equipping the family and carers to use new strategies to impact everyday tasks.

Children’s Choice Therapy Service is an independent group of specialist Occupational Therapist’s working across education, social care, charitable organisations, and independently with parents. Children’s Choice has a full Ayres Sensory Integration assessment, treatment and training centre within the midlands. Alison Hart is managing director of Children’s Choice, with nearly 30 years as an Occupational Therapist, and also lectures at the University of Derby.

Alison has a husband, two grown-up girls, and two idiotic dogs.
