About Enabled Living

We are a public sector owned organisation and work in partnership with London Borough of Newham Adult Social Care and the North East London Clinical Commissioning Group (NELCCG). We provide a number of services that help Newham residents live the life they choose.

We provide community equipment to support people to continue to live independently in their own homes. We also work with people who are visually impaired, hard of hearing, Deaf and Deafblind, to assess and support them to be more independent, safe and confident. In addition, we assess and prescribe wheelchairs for Newham residents who need them, to make sure they get the right chair

About the workshop

During the pandemic, many residents suffering from sensory loss have faced increased isolation and we know there has been lack of information for the British Sign Language community.

Our free workshop gives you an overview of the impact that a visual, hearing and dual impairment can have on a person’s independence and their health & wellbeing, and how at Enabled Living we have been supporting our customers with other agencies.

The session will will provide you with an opportunity to:

Develop a basic awareness and skills relating to sensory impairment
Understand the impact of sensory loss on people’s lives
Understand how you can work effectively with people with sensory loss
Develop an awareness of communication issues facing people with sensory impairment
Learn from people living with sensory loss
Learn about the work of the Enabled Living Sensory Team
