Session Thirteen: The Democratic Facade
Join us as we study Erica Cane's essay 'The Democratic Facade: 'Practicality', Identity Reductionism and The Erosion of Genuine Change'.
We will explore what identity politics and identity reductionism mean, as well as how our current democratic system uses these ideas of representation to dilute and pacify radical change. We will be taking Cane's analysis and discussing how this applies in a British context.
We will be providing a glossary before the session that we will update and send post-session. We will also provide summary notes to help with our understanding of the text. Don't feel pressure to know everything straight away. We are here to learn together! 🤎
We will be sending these notes out via our newsletter. You can subscribe here. 📚
We will use guiding questions to discuss our thoughts on the themes in Cane's essay. Our questions are structured to welcome all contributions. Everyone is welcome to come along and share their thoughts! 🌍
We encourage you to bring a notepad and a pen so you can take notes. We will have paper and pens if you do not have them already. 🖌️
We are looking forward to meeting you all! 🌱
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop a dm; we will answer shortly! ✨
