A One-Day Workshop Using Lego Serious Play®
Lunch is included
Objectives of the Workshop
“Strategy” and “Strategic” are over-used words in business today. Many companies develop “strategies” that are little more than goals and aspirations. Goals and aspirations might tell us where we want to go; strategy is the art of defining how to get there, plotting a course of action, and responding to what happens next.
This workshop is aimed at those in the process of starting up a new business and aims to help the participants:
Understand what strategy is and why they need one.
Be familiar with strategy development processes.
Attempt some relevant strategy development.
Discuss components of good strategy and common problems.
Be aware of strategy implementation.
The workshop is not intended to teach academic “business school” strategy in a day. It is a practically focused experience, drawing on the knowledge and ideas of all the participants and applying these
ideas in the context of the business challenges faced by the participants. The practical exercises in the workshop use a method called “Lego Serious Play®” to encourage participation and make the whole workshop an engaging and creative experience.
Lego Serious Play®
Lego® Serious Play® is a facilitated thinking, communication and problem-solving technique for organisations, teams and individuals. Participants in a group are led through a series of questions. Each participant builds his or her own three dimensional Lego model in response to the facilitator’s questions,
using specially selected Lego bricks. These 3D models serve as the basis for group discussion, knowledge-sharing, problem-solving and decision-making. Lego Serious Play® is used by many companies around the world for developing business strategies and for personal and team development.
Russell Wayman is a software engineer and manager with 25+ years of experience running software projects in high-tech industry. He is a Member of the IEEE and a Certified Scrum Master. He trained as a Lego Serious Play facilitator with Robert Rasmussen, the main architect of the method.
