Setting Up a Group Training

Setting Up a Group Training

Overview

Learn how to start a community group: identify need, choose a structure, plan your setup, find funding and access support.

Please note: To help reduce no-shows at our training sessions and make sure spaces go to those who need them, we are now asking for a £10 deposit to secure your place. Derby organisations will have this refunded after attending. For non-Derby organisations and anyone who does not attend, the £10 fee is non-refundable. A small non-refundable Eventbrite processing fee will also be added at checkout.

About this training:

Learn the key steps to setting up a new community group. This practical session will help you understand what’s needed to get started and how to build a strong foundation for your idea.

You’ll explore:

  • Identifying a community need
  • Checking what already exists locally
  • Different group structures (informal, formal, charity, CIC)
  • How to get started and who you may need
  • Funding your idea and costing your project
  • Key legal considerations
  • Where to access further help and guidance

Booking information

Booking is essential. As places are limited, we kindly ask each organisation to book one ticket only to ensure fair access for all. Please share your learning with your colleagues afterwards.

Parking

Please note that we have limited free parking available in our car park, which is at the rear of the building and accessed via Melbourne Street. There is on-street (paid) parking available on Charnwood Street, The Avenue and Leopold Street and also a small NCP car park on the corner of The Avenue and Leopold Street.
