Sew Appealing: Workshop 1: Design and Machine Induction
Every Wednesday evening 7pm-9pm Daylan Mollentze (recently seen on ITV's Dress The Nation) hosts an introductory series of sewing worskshops at Art in the Docks.
This series is designed as a progression, but we also welcome participants for those who can only come to one or two. Use the series as a progressive skills development opportunity, and make something to show in our final end of year exhibition, or come to any one class in the series and make something small to take home.
Learning these new skills, you will have the opportunity to complete your own project, which could be a tote bag, a pencil case, or even a stuffed toy, just in time for Christmas. See full details of what each workshop will entail below.
All materials will be provided.
Suitable for all ages and abilities. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

20th November
Design and Machine Induction
Get introduced to domestic sewing machines and design your very own sewing project to complete over four workshops hosted by industry professionals.
Workshop 2
27th November
Pattern Cutting and Fabric Prep
Learn how to draft a paper pattern for your chosen design and cover some of the basics of pattern cutting. Also, cut and prepare your fabrics ready for the next workshop.
Workshop 3
4th December
Surface Embellishment / Print
Now’s the time to express yourself and embellish the fabrics you’ve prepared. Use various surface embellishment and printing techniques to add some spice to your fabrics ready to sew in the next workshop.
Workshop 4
11th December
Final Construction
It’s all in the title. Use domestic sewing machines to sew together your chosen design under the watchful eyes of fashion professionals.
