Sewing skills developer - full day workshop

Pollard YardManchester, England
Sunday, Jan 18 from 10 am to 4:30 pm GMT
Overview

So you know the basics, now what? Spend a fun day mastering some new techniques!

Develop your sewing skills - workshop

Sewing skills developer - full day workshop!

So you've dusted off your sewing machine, sewn your first seams....now what? The sewing skills developer will get you sewing more than just a straight line and teach you some skills that will see you through your first projects.

The morning will start by showing you a sewing pattern and how to read it, we'll go through body measurements and how to determine your size in sewing patterns (for dressmaking), then we'll actually take your measurements so you have something accurate to refer too when going forward.

In the afternoon we will move onto various techniques that you may use within dressmaking and create various samples. Some of these may include:

  • Sewing darts
  • Sewing various different seams
  • Buttonholes
  • Gathering
  • Elasticated waist

*Depending on the group, tutor and peoples preferences - we sometimes switch things up and sew a very simple garment instead of sewing samples. It totally depends on the class and what you want to learn, but in the past we have sewn a very simple sweatshirt and a skirt with a zipper fastening. This is up to the group, but sometimes people feel that sewing a garment is more beneficial than sewing samples!

With a maximum of 5 students per class, this is a small group setting and is perfect for developing your skills. The studio is only small, so we keep the numbers low to keep it from feeling too cramped.
