Sgraffito Ceramics Workshop

Sgraffito Ceramics Workshop

Overview

An intermediate class for new potters. Introduction to the ceramic surface decoration techniques Sgraffito and inlay.

This class is suitable for beginner and intermediate potters who already have a basic working knowledge of ceramics. If you've ever wondered how ceramicists get those crisp colourful lines or bold clean illustrations in their surface decoration, these could be the techniques for you!

Learn how to layer colour and use different tools to achieve striking, intricate designs. You will experiment carving back with the sgraffito technique and also inlaying coloured slips and underglazes.

You are encouraged to bring a few of your own pots to work on, these must be leather hard and made from a clay that can fire to 1250°C. If you don't have your own pots you will be provided with small test pots and test tiles to work with.

After the class your pots and samples will be left at the studio and fired by studio technicians, ready to collect in approx 2 weeks.
