Using the best available evidence, SHAAP provides the authoritative clinical voice on how policy makers and clinicians can reduce alcohol-related harms in Scotland.

Join us online on Wednesday 23 February from 14:00-16:00 GMT for a knowledge exchange webinar on Managed Alcohol Programmes (MAPs).MAPs originate in Canada and are designed for people who are homeless and have an Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). They focus on harm prevention by providing measured, regular doses of alcohol and people in MAPs are often provided with mental and physical healthcare and access to other services. The Simon Community is introducing Scotland’s first formal MAP, in Glasgow. This webinar aims to exchange knowledge and allow discussion to equip people and organisations who work with homeless people and/or people with AUDs with knowledge on MAPs, how they work, what makes them work, what should be taken into account, and lessons that have been learned in Canada, London and in the early stages of development of the MAP in Glasgow. Confirmed speakers are: <ul><li>Dr Bernie Pauly, Associate Director of the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research at the University of Victoria, Canada </li><li>Wendy Muckle and Dr Jeff Turnbull, co-founders of Ottawa’s MAP </li><li>Dr Hannah Carver, Co-Director of the Salvation Army Centre for Addiction Services at the University of Stirling </li><li>Peter McLachlan, MAP Service Lead, Simon Community in Glasgow </li><li>Karyn McCluskey, Chief Executive of Community Justice Scotland </li><li>Dr Emmert Roberts, Honorary Specialist Registrar in Substance Misuse Psychiatry at South London and the Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust</li><li>Healthcare professionals from Glasgow City HSCP and homeless services – panel discussion </li></ul>The webinar will be hosted online using the Zoom platform, and registrants will receive a link in advance of the event.*Paintings used in the event flyer are by Linda McGowan, used with permission by Salvation Army Centre for Addiction Services and Research
