Shape and Symmetry maths/art workshop at MathsCity LeedsP﻿lease note: this workshop is for adults only, and attendees must be 18+Many beautiful designs and patterns are based on underlying mathematical principles of shape and symmetry. Using a ruler and compasses, shapes can be constructed on paper which can form the basis of geometric patterns. In this workshop mathematician Katie Steckles and illustrator Hana Ayoob will talk you through the process and give you time – and inspiration – to design your own artwork, incorporating design ideas from traditional mandala shapes and patterns.D﻿escribed by past participants as &#x27;incredibly wholesome and chilled&#x27;, this adults-only maths/art workshop will be a chance for you to indulge your mathematical and artistic sides, meet other like-minded adults and create a piece of art in a low-stakes and supportive environment. We&#x27;ll provide all the materials you need, and you can take your finished artwork away with you.T﻿icket cost includes entry to MathsCity Leeds, from 5pm onwards - the centre&#x27;s extensive collection of hands-on puzzles and activities will close to the public at 5pm, and will be exclusively open to ticket holders from 5pm until the workshop starts at 7pm. She finished her PhD in 2011, and since then has talked about maths in schools, at science festivals, on BBC radio and TV, at music festivals, as part of theatre shows and on the internet.<a href="https://hanaayoob.com" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Hana Ayoob</a> (joining remotely) is a freelance illustrator, science communicator and producer based in London. Her art is inspired by science and nature, and full of intricate patterns and symmetry from traditional Indian designs.
