Shaping Destiny Presents - A day of exploration!10 June at the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter. 12pm-8pm.Shaping Destiny is a multi-disciplinary public engagement project led by members of the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics (DPAG) and TORCH. We are bringing together the fields of immersive technology, developmental genetics, and creative performance, to explore the force of the key concepts of ‘destiny’ and ‘embodiment’. Join us to explore the power of the embodied imagination in an experiment combining scientific analysis and dance, cultural history and virtual reality. Wrestle with key shared notions such as fate, determinism and culture in both cellular and creative domains, investigate human ‘norms’, our histories, and your futures.A﻿cross the afternoon, we will be presenting 3 performances of Oxford People's Theatre especially commissioned show. Oxford People's Theatre p﻿erformances are at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm.P﻿arasol and Body Politic will also be performing. P﻿arasol and Body Politic performance 4pm-4.30pmB﻿ody Politic performance 6pm-6.30pmW﻿e are also offering the opportunity to explore the research that inspired the show with exciting activities on site.The VR Experience - 10 minutes to explore a virtual world. 12pm-8pmP﻿lease feel free to book any or all of the activities. P﻿lease be aware that this day explores cultural perspectives within and beyond science that some people may find challenging; these include pregnancy, body form, congenital abnormalities, miscarriage, birth trauma, mental health, and historical language around disability. Age guidance 12+Please keep in mind that all kids are different, so assess your child/children’s ability to handle fright/sensitive topics before booking.
