About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

The benefits of reading—even for a short time each day—are varied and life-changing, from improving employability, language skills, social skills, and family bonding, to reducing stress and anxiety. Touchstone research has proven the phenomenal statistic that whether or not a child enjoys reading is more important to their educational success than their family background. In other words, reading for pleasure is the single most important indicator of a child's future success.

Nurturing reading for pleasure in children and young people, is at the heart of our work at Scottish Book Trust. Our Reading Champion Awards recognises the reading role models out there whose fantastic work inspires others to read for pleasure.

Join us to hear from this year’s winners, as they share good practice examples of what they’ve done in their settings to support and encourage reading for pleasure. Our 2025 Reading Champions are: Gerry Moore, pupil support teacher, from Carrick Academy in South Ayrshire; Caroline Tonner, DHT, from Annbank PS in South Ayrshire; Derek France, School Librarian, from Preston Lodge High School in East Lothian; and Jodie Logan, Class Teacher, from Wiston Primary School in South Lanarkshire.

Gerry, Caroline and Derek will be joining us at this session.

This webinar is aimed at learning professionals in primary and secondary settings. The webinar will be held on Microsoft Teams with joining details sent in advance.
