Designed for teachers and support staff working directly with children and young people with additional support needs, this event is also perfect for educators in mainstream settings.Guest speaker Claire Murray is the creator of the Emotion Works programme and founder of Emotion Works CIC (Community Interest Company) which works with Schools, Early Learning Settings and ASN provisions across Scotland to promote emotional learning and wellbeing. Claire’s teaching experience and piloting in all of these sectors, along with a strong academic background in psychology ensure that the curriculum and approaches developed and shared through Emotion Works are developmentally matched to learners across all ages and stages. The use of Sensory Stories as an approach to delivering emotional literacy learning experiences will be explored in this input with an invitation to try out the session example in your own practice and feed back on how it goes.You will also hear from seasoned professionals Catherine Lindow and Sarah Little, who have successfully integrated sensory storytelling into their practice. Explore the 'how' and 'why' behind their methods, as they share practical tips, valuable resources, and real-life experiences.Catherine Lindow works part-time for Edinburgh Libraries and part-time as an illustrator. She is interested in the overlap between drawing and storytelling and often runs workshops exploring the different ways we can bring stories alive through group work. Sensory storytelling turns out to be a wonderful way to do this, and in her presentation Catherine will speak about how to make use of illustrations while delivering a sensory story, drawing on her experience as an artist to show how visual elements can support engagement, atmosphere, and understanding.Sarah Little is a class teacher at a specialist provision school in Aberdeen, and she teaches a group of children who all have profound intellectual and multiple disabilities.
