Join Scottish Book Trust for a webinar exploring ways to bring books to life and promote a love of reading with your learners.

Join Scottish Book Trust for a webinar on ways to support shared reading in your classroom, bringing books to life and promoting a love of reading with your learners.

Sharing a class novel and reading books aloud with your learners is a great way of encouraging listening, exploring new titles and developing a reading culture in an inclusive way, but it can be difficult to know where to start. This webinar will provide advice for sharing books and help develop your confidence in reading books aloud.

We're delighted to be joined by Vivian French and Yvonne Manning who will share their top tips for reading aloud with children. Vivian French has published over 300 books for children; she teaches illustration, runs writing workshops and is also the co-founder of Picture Hooks, a project that supports emerging illustrators. Yvonne Manning is principal librarian at Falkirk Council. She's received the Youth Libraries Group Librarian of the Year award in recognition for her work encouraging young people to engage with reading and libraries. We're also very pleased to be joined by Deborah McDonald who works in a primary school in Moray and who will share an example of good practice in whole-school shared reading.

This session is aimed at learning professionals in primary and secondary school settings. The webinar will be held on Microsoft Teams, with meeting details and a link to access the session shared in advance.

NB: If you are currently working towards your Reading Schools accreditation, this aligns with key area 2.3.1 (Modelling Reading Behaviours) of the Reading Schools framework

Reading Schools is a national accreditation programme for schools that are committed to building a reading culture with and for their learners and communities. Research indicates that reading for pleasure positively impacts on learners' attainment across the curriculum, supports wellbeing, critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.

NB: We have two self-directed e-learning modules containing curated elements to help give programme participants the relevant knowledge to commence and achieve their Reading Schools accreditation. These can be found here.
