Event description
A panel discussion about architecture in the era of information and how we can design resilient and flexible urban and living environments.

About this event

The architectural profession is called to respond to environmental, social, demographic and pandemic shocks and stresses. As architects in the era of information, we take advantage of technology and data to help us manage urban risk and design resilient, flexible environments that improve our everyday experience.

Erez Ella, Founding Partner of HQ Architects, an international practice based in Tel Aviv, alongside Katerina Dionysopoulou and Billy Mavropoulos, founders of London-based practice Bureau de Change, will discuss translating technology and data into physical space, understanding social behaviour and end-user needs and applying a thoughtful and caring approach in creating urban, institutional, and living environments.

Join us for a panel discussion chaired by Amy Frearson, editor-at-large for Dezeen, where we will explore what care is and where it’s happening in the context of urban fabric and how to design places and spaces that are more reactive to ongoing and future changes.

HQ Architects

HQ Architects is an international practice founded in Tel Aviv in 2008 by Erez Ella. Focusing on a strong pragmatic and programmatic approach, the practice combines innovative and high quality design with strong technical expertise, and spearheads the design and construction over many projects of various scales in Israel and abroad. HQ Architects expanding portfolio of work stretches among various sectors, including urban design, public spaces and infrastructure, education projects as well as offices, hotels and retail projects.

The practice showcases strong expertise in cultural and institutional projects. Among the most noted are the recently completed Michael Sela Auditorium at the Weizmann Institute of Science and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Kushner building, currently under construction. HQ Architects joined Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa / S A N A A to realise the currently under construction 45,000 sq.m new campus of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem.

HQ Architects’ interest in technology centered design is evident in various projects, including being part of the US-Israeli team for the NASA challenge “Habitat on Mars” - a challenge to establish a 3D printed habitat for future astronauts on Mars.

Bureau De Change Architects

Bureau de Change is an award winning architecture practice founded by Katerina Dionysopoulou and Billy Mavropoulos. Its work is a direct product of the founders' upbringing, passions and experiences - combining the pragmatism and formality of their architectural training with a desire to bring a sense of theatre, playfulness and innovation to the design of spaces, products and environments. The result is a studio where rigorous thinking and analysis are brought to life through prototyping, testing and making.

Within the last four years Bureau de Change has won numerous awards from the FX Breakthrough Talent of the year 2016 to the Sunday Times Architect of the Year award 2019 and was most recently shortlisted for the RIBA Awards 2020.

The studio’s work was selected as part of the 250th Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
