Come join a participatory, creative session on Sunday 10 April where you can learn how to make dramatic protest props.

Help make giant 'corporate shark' lanterns out of willow and paper. We’re making them to take them to Anglo-American’s AGM to protest against the corporate court case they are bringing over the Cerrejón open-cast coal mine in Colombia.The session, jointly organised by War on Want and Global Justice Now, will be an opportunity to learn about UK mining giant Anglo American’s impact on communities near one of the biggest open pit coal mines in the world, the Cerrejón coal mine in Colombia, and the corporate court case that Anglo American is now taking against the country - and most importantly, how we can support the communities fighting back.Children welcome! Full programme below. UK mining giant Anglo American have been mining one of the biggest open-pit coal mines in the world, the Cerrejón mine in Colombia, for decades. Indigenous communities living around the mine have endured forcible displacement, the devastation and loss of their communities and livelihoods as well as militarised repression and death threats against those speaking out. Now the company is also bringing a corporate court case against Colombia, because they haven't been able to expand part of the mine under the sacred Bruno stream.On Sunday 10 April 2022 War on Want and GlobalJustice Now, together with the London Mining Network, are holding a creative, in-person workshop where we will be making props to bring along to Anglo American's AGM this year to tell them we won't stand for it. The session will run from 11am to 4.30pm, with a catered lunch break (vegetarian).We will also hear how about how communities in Colombia are resisting the destruction of their homes from Diana Salazar, activist academic with UCL, Colombia Solidarity Campaign and London Mining Network, as well as the intersection between the corporate courts system and the fossil fuel industry from War on Want and Global Justice Now.RSVP here now to guarantee your spot.We look forward to seeing you there!
