ShfWIT: Knit & Code
Book onto our interactive session with Katie Davis to explore the history of knitting, women, technology and the thread that connect us.
Sheffield Women in Tech is here to create a community that is empowered by women, for women in technology, and support the next generation of diverse talent with new committee members and fresh ideas.
This Event...
The amazing Katie Davis is running May's workshop, in this interactive session, we’ll take a deeper look into one of the oldest forms of technology: knitting!
Women have been fundamental to the development of technology since its very beginning. Textiles represent one of humanity's earliest and most transformative technologies.
Katie's talk will cover:
- How knitting evolved in step with other technologies.
- How education helped spread it into an accessible, widespread craft.
- What that journey can teach us about the way technology grow.
- What it looks like for women to take an active role in steering the future of technology.
This session will involve one-to-one and small group discussion exploring what technology means to you personally, and how we can help shape where it goes next as a collective. No laptops required.
We are so thankful that Katie is giving up her time to run this session!
Drinks and snacks will be provided.
