Manchester Digital Laboratory (MadLab) is a grassroots innovation organisation, based in Manchester UK. Our primary areas of focus are science and technology; arts and culture.Our courses are learning for doers. Every one of our courses, whether it's electronics or coding, writing or making, is powered by the same magic. Are you passionate about making a real difference in your local community? Do you have innovative ideas and a drive to solve pressing issues? If so, we invite you to be a part of our exciting Community Hackathon, where your creativity and problem-solving skills can create innovative approaches to creating a safer, more sustainable and inclusive future!What is the Community Hackathon all about?Hackathons are events in which people come together to solve problems using technology. Our Community Hackathon is a two-day event dedicated to tackling local community issues head-on. Challenges will be set by local community groups, charities and cultural organisations, who will have the option of implementing your ideas long-term.We believe that collective intelligence and collaboration can lead to groundbreaking solutions. A hackathon brings together diverse minds from all walks of life – to address critical challenges that our community faces. Why should you participate?Make a Real Impact: This is your chance to directly impact your community positively. Your ideas and solutions can bring about real change and improve the lives of people around you.Build Meaningful Connections: Network with like-minded individuals, community leaders, and potential mentors who share your passion for creating a better world.Hone Your Skills: Whether you&#x27;re an experienced coder or a first-time hackathon participant, you&#x27;ll have the opportunity to sharpen your skills and learn from others.Prizes: Challenge setters will offer prizes for the team with the best ideas. There will also be an overall grand prize of £150 in vouchers for the best submission of the event, and everyone who completed the hackathon (attends both days) will receive a £10 gift voucher for participation. Themes for the Hackathon:Our hackathon focuses on a variety of local community issues, including but not limited to:Education for All: Develop innovative solutions to improve access to education, remote learning, or after-school programs in our community.Sustainable Living: Create projects that promote eco-friendly practices, waste reduction, or renewable energy solutions for a greener tomorrow.Empowering Local Businesses: Help local businesses thrive by coming up with digital tools, platforms, or marketing strategies to increase their reach and impact.Health and Wellness: Address health disparities by developing applications, awareness campaigns, or platforms that promote physical and mental well-being.Social Inclusion: Work on projects that foster inclusivity, diversity, and a sense of belonging for marginalised groups within the community.Event Details:Team Formation: We recommend teams of two-four people. Don&#x27;t have a team? No worries. We&#x27;ll help you find like-minded team members during the event. Food and Refreshments: We&#x27;ve got you covered with snacks, lunch, and drinks to keep your energy up throughout the hackathon.How to Get Involved:Participation is open to anyone aged 18 - 35. Whether you&#x27;re a seasoned coder, a budding designer, or someone passionate about social issues, we welcome you to be a part of this transformative experience. Experienced mentors will be on hand to support you throughout the event. If you don&#x27;t have a laptop to bring with you, we can provide you with one on the day.
