Description

‘A’ Team Arts presents Silk River Forever Hoorah!

Silk River Forever Hoorah! is adapted for the stage and devised as part of the Silk River performance walk by the House of Talent youth. This production follows the changing migration, trade and social landscape of Tower Hamlets through song, drama, spoken word and declamatory storytelling.

This year ‘A’ Team Arts has worked with Internationally renowned arts organisation Kinetika on ‘Silk River’, an ambitious project exploring the unique relationship between London and Kolkata, through artistic exchange between communities along the Thames Estuary and India’s Hooghly River.

Its performing arts group, House of Talent, along with director Dr. Canan Salih, devised a site specific performance to tell stories of inspirational people from Tower Hamlets yesterday, today and tomorrow.

In addition there is a display of the designed silk leaves that formed part of the ‘Mulberry Tree of Aspiration’ installation at Mulberry school. Reflecting on the underlying theme of ‘Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow’. The beautiful designs focus strongly on young people’s aspirations for the future, their local communities and the environment. Using silk painting and batik, the leaves are symbolic reference to Tower Hamlets’ historical link to silk manufacturing and the tradition of making handmade textiles.

A drop in workshop from 5.30pm-7pm will take place on 16th November when you can come along and make your own ‘leaf of aspiration’.

'A’ Team Arts is Tower Hamlets arts service for young people aged 12-19 years old (up to 25 if SEN) who live, study or work in the borough. It delivers projects for young people in schools, youth clubs and its studios at the Brady Arts Centre in Whitechapel.
