Simone Kenyon: Into the Mountain

Simone Kenyon will share elements of her ongoing research, artistic practice and her current project Into the Mountain - an outdoor performance project exploring and celebrating women’s relationships with Scotland’s mountainous places. Inspired by the lyrical and embodied prose of Nan Shepherd’s 1974 book, The Living Mountain, Kenyon's site-sensitive dance performance will take place in the Cairngorm Mountains in May this year.  
Fans of Nan Shepherd and any outdoor, embodied practice will find this illustrated talk stimulating and inspiring - as we find out how Simone and her collaborators are creating this fascinating piece of work. 
More about the Into the Mountain project: Through a year-long programme of workshops, talks and live performance, Into The Mountain is an invitation for audiences to (re)discover the unique environment of the Cairngorms National Park. Exploring how women’s experience of place provides us with tools to navigate and come to know the landscape with fresh perspectives, a new site-sensitive performance will be presented in May 2019.
Simone Kenyon is an Edinburgh based artist and dance maker. For the past 21 years she has created trans-disciplinary works that encompass dance and somatic practices, walking arts, mountaineering, creating participatory and performance events for both urban and rural contexts. She explores walking as a choreographic practice, sensory experience, ecology and our perceptions of environments.
