The Skid Row Christmas Caroling Crawl is a flash-mob style, unplugged caroling event led by Urban Voices Project. Skid Row artists, volunteers, and community members move together through the neighborhood, stopping briefly to sing familiar holiday songs and share moments of joy, connection, and care

We will gather at 10:00am for welcome, grounding, and song review before beginning the crawl.

Do I need to be a singer to participate?

Accepted Answer

Not at all.
All voices are welcome, and no singing experience is required. You are invited to sing, hum, or simply stand in supportive presence. Portable, walk-around-able instruments are welcome too!

What kind of singing will we do?

We’ll sing simple, familiar holiday carols led by Urban Voices Project facilitators. Lyrics will be provided, and songs are chosen to be inclusive, grounding, and easy to follow.

How does the crawl work?

This is a walking event. As a group, we will move through Skid Row and briefly stop at select locations where clients or residents may already be gathered. Each stop typically lasts approximately 15 minutes.

All singing is unplugged — no microphones, speakers, or amplification.

How long does the event last? Do I have to stay the whole time?

The full crawl runs about 3 hours, but you are welcome to join for part of the route if needed. If you plan to arrive late or leave early, please let a facilitator know. A contact number will be provided. If arriving late or leaving early, you'll have to find your way back without any staff support.

Please do not take photos or videos of individuals without their clear consent. Urban Voices Project may have a designated photographer following consent-based guidelines.

We prioritize dignity and safety over documentation.

We do our best to move at a gentle, accessible pace, but this is a walking event on city sidewalks. If you have specific accessibility needs or questions, please reach out to us in advance.

Yes, children are welcome with close adult supervision. Please consider whether this environment is appropriate for your child and be prepared to step away if needed.

While we sing traditional holiday carols, this event is rooted in community care, healing, and connection, not religious instruction or proselytizing. Participation is open to people of all backgrounds and beliefs.

We will have granola bars and water bottles provided but we recommend packing a sandwich for yourself. We may be offered food at some of the partner sites but it is not guaranteed.
