Skilful adjustments are an important form of communication between teacher and student. They can be more effective than verbal instruction or demonstration, helping students find stability and ease in their practice, as well as gain a deeper understanding of their physical and mental patterns. Adjustments can also open poses for both students and teachers. But since all bodies and practices are different, knowing when, why, and how to adjust can feel overwhelming.
This practical workshop will explore the principles of adjusting. It will show you when, why, and how to adjust key yoga asana groups. We will practice a selection of poses and assists on each other.
What We’ll Cover:
- Philosophical underpinnings of asana
- Why adjust and what we are adjusting
- When to adjust and when not to
- Adjustments in different teaching styles
- Touch, consent, and receiving an adjustment
- Technical and energetic approaches to adjustments
- Entering and exiting adjustments: touch and pressure
- Active and passive adjustments
