About the Workshop
Join staff at The London Archives for STAR – Skills Training in Archival Research – a hands-on workshop designed to help postgraduate students and researchers make the most of archival collections. Whether you're working on a dissertation, thesis, postdoctoral project, or book, this session will equip you with the practical skills and confidence to navigate archives effectively.
You’ll learn how to:
- Use TLA’s online catalogue and research guides
- Identify and request relevant archival material
- Handle original documents safely
- Understand how archives are organised and accessed
Workshop Schedule
1 - 1.20pm Arrival & Registration (with coffee)
1.20 – 2.10pm Welcome to TLA: Introduction to our collections, catalogue, and research tools
2.10 – 2.25pm Break
2.25 – 3pm Guided Tour of the Archive
3 – 4pm Practical Session: Document handling & ordering materials (in small groups)
4 – 7pm Optional: Stay and look at archival material independently
