Two-stage 'ultra challenge' showcasing the best of the Skye Trail - incl Trotternish Ridge, Quiraing, Old Man of Storr & Camasunary Bothy

Step into a runner’s dream on this two-day guided trail running experience along the best sections of the legendary Skye Trail, where rugged landscapes, ancient geology and sweeping sea views combine for an unforgettable island adventure.

The full Skye Trail is a challenging unofficial 80-mile (128 km) route that takes in some of the finest landscapes on the Isle of Skye - indeed in the whole of the UK! But on this new event from Girls on Hills, we'll be covering 46km of the route; spreading an ultra-distance journey across two special days.

Our route will follow much of the amazing Trotternish Ridge and visit geological spectacles with the dramatic Cuillins as a backdrop. We will journey through wild open glens, under coastal cliffs and through haunting deserted villages destroyed in the Clearances, as well past the picturesque Camusunary Bothy.

Events tickets include a Friday night stay at Ratagan Youth Hostel (nr Glen Shiel) and a Saturday night stay at Portree Youth Hostel (incl. shuttles/transport logistics on Skye).

Day 1 – Flodigarry to the Old Man of Storr (28km / 1,750m ascent)
Your journey begins in the dramatic north of Skye, running beneath the towering pinnacles of The Quiraing — a surreal landscape of crags, plateaus, and hidden valleys shaped by ancient landslides. The trail then undulates along the high ridgeline of the Trotternish Ridge with views out to the Outer Hebrides, before culminating at the iconic Old Man of Storr, one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks. This challenging yet rewarding day offers a true mountain running experience, blending scenic trails with moments of pure exhilaration.

Day 2 – Sligachan to Elgol (18km / 500m ascent)
After a restful night at Portree Youth Hostel, you’ll set off from the Sligachan inn, with the majestic Cuillin Mountains rising ahead. The route follows a wild and beautiful glen before opening up to rugged coastal paths and sea views that stretch towards the islands of Rum and Eigg. The day finishes at the tranquil hamlet of Elgol, where sheer cliffs meet the sea — a perfect end to two days of world-class trail running.

Throughout the adventure, our expert guides will provide navigation, support, safety, pacing and plenty of local insight — allowing you to focus on the rhythm of your stride, the tranquility and the awe of Skye’s untamed beauty.

The full 'Skye Trail' is a much-loved but unmarked journey and is also the course of GB Ultra's 75 mile trail ultramarathon (from Duntulm to Broadford). But not everybody wants to explore these impressive landscapes as part of a mass-participation event. Many runners would prefer to enjoy quieter trails and a more relaxed, guided journey. If that's you then sign-up soon while tickets last (only 6 places available).

You will receive a full itinerary and event details upon booking.

You can expect the following:

  • Likeminded women to share your experience with (we will be a small team of 6)!
  • Pre-event advice
  • Transport/logistics support
  • Road support and transport should you decide to retire
  • Overnight stay at Portree Youth Hostel from our partners at Hostelling Scotland
  • People to eat meals with and share the evening!
  • You own on-hand tour guide with tales from the trails, points of interest and historical information
  • An unforgettable experience and several new running buddies!

Not included: Accommodation before/after dates of the event.

PACING

You don't have to run fast or keep running the whole time (as with any ultra there will be a LOT of walking involved!) The trail is unmarked and the terrain challenging, so we'll work as a team and support each other to make the finish each day. The emphasis will be on place not pace! However, completing this itinerary is a BIG undertaking (especially day 1), so runners should have experience of long distance running and mountain terrain, to improve their chances of reaching Elgol.

At Girls on Hills we pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable', so please do get in touch with any concerns or queries you might have now or nearer to the event. We look forward to having fun and showing you the incredible trail running on the Isle of Skye!

Please note that Girls on Hills T&Cs differ from those of eventbrite. You can see our sdtandard terms, icnluding Cancellation Policy at www.girlsonhills.com/terms-and-conditions

**Guiding will be with a Summer Mountain Leader qualified ultra-running guide
