Description

Celebrate Slow Pig Sunday at Buttle Farm

We invite you to a guided farm tour, to try some charcuterie and feast on a rare breed pork supper hosted by Robert and Sara Buttle, in conjunction with Slow Food Berkshire & Wiltshire.

2pm

Buttle Farm is a small pedigree rare breed pig farm in Compton Bassett. Arrive at the farm from 2pm ready to start the tour at 2.30pm

You will get to see six happy rare breeds (Berkshires, British Saddlebacks, Large Blacks, Mangalitzas, Oxford Sandy & Blacks and Tamworths) all in an extensive free range environment. Adult breeding stock, fatteners and piglets will all be on their best behaviour for your visit (probably). And with luck, the free range Guinea Fowl will also make an appearance.

The tour is on foot and will take approximately 2 hours - it is over pastureland and farm tracks so flat shoes/walking boots are essential for the day!

5pm

Weather permitting, we will return to the terrace for refreshments and use the wood-fired oven to bake some bread - volunteers encouraged to try out their skills with the baker's peel!

Buttle Farm produces modern British Charcuterie on the farm from all 6 rare breeds. A taste of charcuterie and refreshments will be served before a rare breed pork supper.

7pm

And for those who would like to see more of the pigs, supper will be followed by a pig feeding tour. Alternatively, you can just relax, chat and enjoy the views of the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

The event closes at 8pm.
