Clements HallYork, England
Saturday, Jan 31, 2026 from 10 am to 12:30 pm GMT
Overview

This workshop presents a number of low cost solar projects that can be built at home.

In this workshop, we will present information on a number of solar projects that could be easily undertaken at home, without breaking the bank. There will also be an overview of solar power - how much power can you harvest, and what you can use the power for.

Here is a list of solar projects that we will cover.

Keyfob torch, light in a jam jar, reading Light, USB phone charger, shed light, greenhouse ventilation, rotating garden ornament and water feature.

Full details of the projects will be provided to take away, including information on where to source the parts. Many of these projects can be completed for under £20 in materials and some under £10.

All participants will receive a ready built keyfob torch or a jam jar light to take away.

If they wish, attendees can also make up their own keyfob torch, (previous experience of soldering will be useful) or build up their own jam jar light from a kit (use of screwdriver and drill) , at the end of the workshop.

Note: If the attendee is between 14 and 18 years of age, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This workshop is not suitable for under 14s.
