So Long To The Valleys, So Long To The Seas
A journey through global storytelling and folkloric landscapes, where traditions can hold stories of both great celebration and lasting pain
Costume and performance sit alongside ancient stories of moorland beasts and mystical Roma lore, from Norwegian trolls to West African tribal masks.
The stories here are equal parts playful and creative, harsh and traumatic, illustrating opposing aspects of folk beliefs.
LSFF regulars Andrew Kötting (Gallivant) and Edward Smyth return with latest works that playfully investigate costume and games. While LSFF alumni animator Yasmine Djedje-Fisher-Azoume investigates her Ivory Coast ancestral roots, Edith Morris returns with another Super-8 gem, and Bim Adjadi continues his investigation into deafness and the Black British experience.
The attending filmmakers will join us for a Q&A after the screening.
Contains harm towards children.
Programmed by Philip Ilson.
