About this Event

The restoration of Sir John Soane’s country home in Ealing, completed in 2019, was the result of three years of careful research, analysis and conservation where his original scheme was lovingly restored by a skilled team of crafts experts in stone-carving, historic paint and glass.

To coincide with the current exhibition, Soane Restored, join director Clare Gough for an illustrated online talk revealing the fascinating process of restoration and renewal of this unique building.

About Clare Gough

Clare Gough is Director of Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, Sir John Soane’s ‘country’ house in Ealing, west London and its adjacent contemporary gallery. Pitzhanger reopened to the public in March 2019 with an Anish Kapoor exhibition in the Gallery, following a three year restoration of the Manor to Soane’s original design, supported by HLF, ACE, Ealing Council and others. The restoration of the Manor involved the painstaking research and recreation of Soane’s innovative interior decorative schemes and paint effects throughout.

When Pitzhanger reopens following lockdown it will stage an exhibition, ‘Soane Restored', in the house exploring details of the conservation project.
