In 2001, the IDDA was amalgamated with the globally recognised International Interior Design Association UK Chapter (IIDA), to form the British Interior Design Association (BIDA). The Secretary of State recognised the BIDA as the pre-eminent body in the field in 2009 and granted Institute status so it became the British Institute of Interior Design.Outreach:The British Institute of Interior Design is a member of the Construction Industry Council (CIC), the All Parliamentary Design and Innovation Group (APDIG), the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) and the Creative Industries Federation.

BIID Members are invited to explore the refurbishment of splendid Pitzhanger Manor, recently restored to Sir John Soane’s original vision.

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery

Members will be privately guided along the visitor route, throughout the many rooms in the Manor and Gallery by Director Clare Gough. Investigating the history of Sir John Soane as an architect, the architecture of each room around the Manor, and both the original and restored interior design.Clare will also be exploring the current exhibition ‘Soane Restored’. The exhibition focuses on the recreation of Soane’s decorative paint effects, the rebuilding of the spectacular light-filled conservatory and the restoration of the original stone features. It includes details of graffiti written by a builder who had blocked up the original marbling paintwork in 1832 to an unassuming toothbrush used to recreate specialist interior decoration, a cannonball discovered as a chimney cleaner and a 1900 photograph that became vital evidence in the reconstruction of the conservatory.4:30pm - welcome reception of tea, coffee and biscuits will be available on arrival for registration.5:00pm to 6:00pm - private guided tour of the manor &amp; gallery with Director Clare Gough6:30pm - end WHAT YOU WILL LEAVE WITHGuests will discover how this unique building was conserved and restored with the meticulous research and analysis, skills and techniques of master craftsmen who peeled back the layers of Pitzhanger’s history to reinstate interior and architectural elements lost for over a century.WHO SHOULD ATTENDThis event is for BIID Registered Interior Designers, Associate and Provisional Associate members, employees of BIID Registered Interior Design Practices and BIID Student members. Guests are permitted to bring 1 guest – please book your guest on the same ticket as non-member tickets will be cancelled. Price is per person, so if you do wish to book a guest, please book 2 tickets. Please do not book on this event if you are not a current BIID member as your ticket will be refunded and the BIID will incur a cancellation fee.In-person events and COVID-19This event will be occurring after July 19th, but we would like to take this chance to assure guests that safety precautions are currently in place at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in accordance with current government guidelines.
