Wigan Arts Festival 2026 brings you this 2 hour workshop is aimed at anyone who fancies creating and performing some poetry/spoken word.

Exploring Poetry/Spoken Word
Facilitated by writer and performer, Helen Jeffery, this 2 hour workshop is aimed at anyone who fancies creating and performing some poetry/spoken word. Don’t worry about spelling and grammar - this is about having space to play with language and share your words in a creative, alcohol- free space.

About Me
Helen is a Writer, Performer & Creative Facilitator from Merseyside, UK. A graduate of the Playwright’s Programme at the Liverpool Everyman she has had several plays produced including, ‘The Brink’ and ‘Gun Metal Blue', which won the Blink.Theatre Award for New Writing in 2017. Her most recent play, ‘Buckled’, which explored the challenges of navigating sobriety, has toured twice and is due to be published in May 2026.Helen divides her time between writing, teaching, dramaturgy and facilitating sessions for creatives, young people and adults from a diverse range of communities. She is a trustee of Unity Theatre, Liverpool, the Director of ‘Sober Scribbles’ and a recent recipient of Arts Council England ‘Developing your Creative Practice’ funding.

This workshop takes place in the Community Room at The Old Courts, Crawford St, Wigan, Wn1 1na. Please use Entrance 5 to access this space.
