Join us to discover how Social Security Scotland  operates within  the Devolved Government 

The devolution of social security is the biggest transfer of powers to Scotland since the Scottish Parliament was established in 1999. These powers give responsibility for disability assistance, low income benefits and also the ability to create some new benefits. So far, the Scottish Government has used these powers to establish a new Executive Agency – Social Security Scotland – and they are currently providing 10 benefits through this agency and two through local authorities. The work to transfer benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions to Social Security Scotland continues with the largest most complex benefits still to come. The first disability assistance applications are due to be taken from summer 2021 and all clients are expected to transfer from DWP to this new Scottish system by 2025. Come along to this session to find out more about progress with this significant piece of devolution. Catherine Reeves, Kirsten Sweeney and Rachael McKechnie from the Scottish Government and Social Security Scotland will also take this chance to bust some myths about this ongoing devolution work.
