Social value and mega-projects

The CIPR's Construction & Property Special Interest Group (CAPSIG) provides a much-needed communication forum for PR professionals in two of the largest sectors in the economy.

CIPR Construction and Property

While the long-term benefits of major infrastructure projects eventually become apparent, often these are initially overshadowed by concerns regarding the negative impacts of major construction works on nearby residents and businesses. However, in the UK at least, legislation - including the Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 - calls for the commissioners of major public works to have regard to their impacts on economic, social and environmental well-being.
CAPSIG will be looking at community engagement and social value on two major infrastructure projects, one from Australia and one from the UK. We will be contrasting and comparing the experiences of project planning and delivery, and how both projects engaged with local communities and other stakeholders.
