Get a taste of what it's like to study at Manchester Met's School Of Digital Arts in one of our interactive Wednesday Workshops

About this event

Welcome to our Wednesday Workshop series. These engaging, interactive sessions have been designed to give you a taste of what it would be like to study on one of our amazing degree courses.

You will get to meet our lecturers, who will take you through some of the processes they go through on the course and ask them questions about what it’s like to work in their subject area.

To start the series off we have workshops in Animation, Future Media Production, Web and UX and Games Art running across four dates:

19 May, 14.30 - 15.30 BST: Animation - Bringing Characters to Life!

26 May, 14.30 - 15.30 BST: Future Media Production - What is Future Media Production?

09 June, 14.30 - 15.30 BST: Web and UX – So what makes a good website?

16 June, 14.30 - 15.30 BST: Game Art – Worlds from your imagination.

All our timings are based on British Standard Time (GMT+1)

If you’re interested to learn more about what it’s like to study at degree level, then make sure you book onto one of our 1-hour sessions and find out. All sessions will take place via Microsoft Teams.

We look forward to seeing you there!

BA (Hons) Animation

Bringing Characters to Life! – Character Design for Animation

19 May, 14.30 - 15.30

Join the BA Animation course as we look at the art of character design and development for animation.

All you need is your sketchbook and imagination as we take prompts to design characters that can fit into animated films. Along the way we will think about how they might fit into a 2D, 3D or Stop Motion film and the way we might do that.

So, come along and learn the basics of character creation and bring some of your characters to life with the animation team.

BA (Hons) Future Media Production

What is Future Media Production?

26 May, 14.30 - 15.30

Human beings are storytellers be that through films, TV shows or Tik Tok. The ability to create interesting and engaging stories and tell them visually is at the heart of the Future Media Production course.

In this session we'll see how to quickly outline a story concept through breaking a story into its core components. Through an exercise you’ll learn how to structure your own story ideas and you’ll also get tips on some (free) software you can use to create and tell your stories.

You’ll see what types of media are being produced now and, in the future, as well as see the type of jobs available in the creative digital sector.

BSc (Hons) Web and User Experience Design

So, what makes a good website?

09 June, 14.30 - 15.30

In this session we'll see how design, content and code can all affect how easy a website is to use.

By the end of the session you'll be able to identify and name some of the things that you might already find frustrating about websites and apps and see ways they could be fixed. We'll see what web designers and user experience (or ‘UX') professionals are employed to do and how this course could lead into the many different jobs in the digital industries.

BA (Hons) Game Art

Worlds from your imagination

16 June, 14.30 - 15.30

Join the SODA Game Art team for an interactive concept art workshop.

Bring your creative tools of choice, be it a sketchbook, tablet or application and we will explore the creation of environmental concept art for games.

Come and learn some tips and tricks to help you to develop your game art skills and bring your ideas to life.
