Software Deposit and Preservation Workshop 

The Software Sustainability Institute (www.software.ac.uk) is an EPSRC, AHRC, BBSRC, ESRC, NERC, MRC and STFC funded national facility that cultivates world-class research with software.We help people build better software, and we work with researchers, developers, funders and infrastructure providers to identify key issues and best practice in research software.

<A HREF="https://www.software.ac.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Software Sustainability Institute</A> has been funded by <A HREF="https://www.jisc.ac.uk" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jisc </A>to provide software deposit and preservation guidance, in particular to develop use cases and workflows for software deposit via the <A HREF="https://www.jisc.ac.uk/rd/projects/research-data-shared-service" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Research Data Shared Service</A> (RDSS).
In March we ran a <A HREF="https://software.ac.uk/blog/2018-03-22-software-deposit-and-preservation-policy-and-planning-workshop" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Software Deposit and Preservation Policy and Planning Workshop</A>. That workshop brought together RDSS pilot institutions, and others interested in research software preservation, to provide a better understanding on the current practices, policy and guidance in this area. From this workshop, we have produced a <A HREF="https://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1250310" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">report</A> and a collection of guides on software deposit and preservation for researchers, research leaders and research data managers.
At this second workshop we will bring together research data managers, digital repository vendors, publishers, policymakers and researchers. We will present our guidance, discuss software deposit and preservation from the perspectives of the foregoing stakeholders, and identify ways in which to drive forward the adoption of best practices in software deposit and preservation.
