Photo taken by Rhys VotanoSoliloquy is a practice developed by independent dance artist and choreographer, Monika Blaszczak. It outlines an ethics of work which challenges the dominant economic systems and precarity in the arts. Coming from a dance background, Monika seeks to question the separation of dancer and choreographer, and the binary logic of subject/object within art making. The ethical concerns of Soliloquy are - what alternative modes of working are possible in the age of late capitalism? How can we resist the exploitative art economy and it’s constant pressure to produce? Soliloquy encourages us to question the ways we have been taught to understand our bodies. It guides us to listen closely, desire differently, and to explore radical loneliness and the intimacy that it brings.Soliloquy is being offered as a course, made up of 4 weekly workshops. The sessions will be facilitated by independent dancer and choreographer, Monika Blaszczak, and organised in collaboration with curator Gallia Young. The classes will run throughout the month of August &#x27;21. These workshops draw on movement and meditation practices to explore themes of darkness, radical loneliness, desire, and haunting. They are open to anyone interested in movement and healing practices, resisting capitalist art economies, and experimenting with other ways of being. THIS IS OFFERED AS A FULL COURSE, OVER 4 WEEKLY WORKSHOPSWORKSHOP TIMES AND DATES 18:30 - 19:30 ( BST )  |  5,  12,  19,  25  August 2021Each session will take place on Zoom, starting with introductions from Monika and Gallia, followed by a 45 minute guided practice and finishing with a group check-in. During the guided practice, participants will be asked to turn off their cameras and microphones. This is to ensure that everyone can explore their own practice without being watched, but at the same time, feeling the collective presence of the group through closing the session together. No previous movement or visual art practice is required, and people with all levels of mobility are welcome. We will be in touch with participants to inquire about access needs, but feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss any specific requirements.The full course is offered on a sliding-scale ticket price of either £10, £20, £30, £40. There are 16 places available altogether. Please consider paying the full amount if you are able. All of the money raised from tickets goes to the artist, Monika Blaszczak. If you are unable to pay but would like to participate, please feel free to contact us.
