About this event

  • Event lasts 4 days

'Signs of Life' finds its second iteration at the Sarabande Foundation, where jeweller Mairi Millar traces the mystery of parakeets flocking to London, their adaptability to a new ecosystem and their resemblance to the Windrush Generation. First shown in Trinidad, this jewellery exhibition mirrors the migration it portrays, taking flight once more.

Mairi Millar, a Trinidadian artist based in London, was born in Trinidad & Tobago. Her work explores the beauty of nature’s discarded elements, “collaborating with chance” to create pieces from found natural objects. Through the medium of jewellery, these overlooked or discarded items are transformed into precious relics.

Millar is an alumna of The Rhode Island School of Design (2018) and The Royal College of Art (2021). She was awarded a residency (2021-22) at the Sarabande Foundation, established by Lee Alexander McQueen.

'Signs of Life' is curated by Trinidadian curator and writer Zarna Hart, a fellow alumna of The Royal College of Art (2023).
