Event description

Description

The solstice marks the end of spring and the arrival of summer, with the sun at its highest point providing the most daylight we get all year. What better excuse to stay up all night, and be there for those few hours of darkness, before seeing daylight unfold once more.

Brake the Cycle is organising this free ride which will include a pub stop and for those feeling particularly adventurous, a wild swim (or two). We anticipate a route of around 75 undulating miles, which with stops should see us arrive in Hastings around 6am. Please note that this is an unsupported ride; at the very least bring tyre levers, pump and inner tube in the event of a puncture. You'll also need to bring food to keep your energy levels up through the night. This isn't a sports event, it's an adventure experience. There'll be no medal for the first person to finish. It's an opportunity to ride with others, to make new friends, and hopefully see a magical sunrise.

We'll be departing from the Rye pub in Peckham at 9pm. The pub has a big public grassy area on the other side of the road in front of it, which is ideal for us to gather there and use the pub if you need the toilet or any food before leaving. We'll be gathering there from 8pm.

We will publish the route a little closer to the date, and make a gpx file available for people wanting to download it to their phones/computers.

The train back to London from Hastings takes around 1 hour 45 minutes. The first train runs at 6.50am and is every 20 minutes thereafter.

Bring friends. Bring sugary snacks. Most of all bring yourself and leave a little room for the magic of the solstice to take hold.
